ASTM International Unveils Additive Manufacturing Operator Certification Program

Today, ASTM International announced the Powder Bed Fusion – Laser Beam (PBF-LB) Machine Operator Certification program developed by the ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE). This certification provides a benchmark for assessing reliable and competent operations of metal PBF-LB machines.

Built on the joint ISO/ASTM standard for qualifying machine operators of laser metal PBF machines and equipment (ISO/ASTM 52942:2020), the new certification provides operators in compliance with the standard a stamp of approval.

Wohlers Report 2022 Finds Strong Industry-Wide Growth

Today, Wohlers Associates, powered by ASTM International, announced the publication of Wohlers Report 2022. This marks the 27th consecutive year of publishing the industry-leading annual report. It provides new content and expert analysis on additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D printing worldwide. 

Research for Wohlers Report 2022 shows AM industry growth of 19.5% in 2021. This is up from 7.5% growth in 2020, which was impacted greatly by the pandemic.

ASTM International Publishes Special Journal on Manufacturing During COVID-19

ASTM International announced today the publication of Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing in the Post-COVID-19 Manufacturing Era, a special issue of the Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing Systems (SSMS) journal that can be downloaded at no additional cost.

ASTM International Standards for ACI Certification Now Available

Today, global standards organization ASTM International launched a new package including the standards and test methods necessary for concrete certification training and virtual learning.  

American Concrete Institute (ACI) chapters and sponsoring groups that partner with ASTM International will have the opportunity to build a customizable package for the exact ASTM standards and test methods needed for ACI certification programs, including testing, inspection, and construction/specialist programs.

ASTM International Ends Sales of 1980 Petroleum Measurement Tables

ASTM International is no longer selling its 11-volume printed Petroleum Measurement Tables, a historical document created in 1980. This has been superseded by updates from the American Petroleum Institute’s Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards, a jointly developed document linked to an existing ASTM International standard and its adjunct.

This updated approach considers a broader range of temperature and also takes into account pressure effects on volume correction factors, a combination that more accurately depicts actual field conditions, according to API. 

ASTM International Releases New Edition of Best-Selling Fuels Manual

Today,global standards organization ASTM International announced the release of the Fuels and Lubricants Handbook: Technology, Properties, Performance, and Testing. The handbook is the second edition of the best-selling fuels manual. 

Originally published in 2003, the second edition features fourteen new chapters, with most chapters completely rewritten. 

The new fuels manual contains 49 chapters from nearly 100 authors that address a variety of important petroleum technologies, including:

ASTM International Sponsors ARABLAB 2020

Today, global standards organization ASTM International announced that it is a supporting partner of ARABLAB 2020, March 15-18, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. 

ARABLAB is considered the largest global trade show for laboratory science and instrumentation, with an expected 10,000 visitors from over 100 countries. The event will feature more than 1,000 exhibitors showcasing the newest technologies from laboratories worldwide.

New ASTM International Report Provides Technical Underpinning for Drones, Autonomy in Aviation

ASTM International, a global standards leader, today published its first-ever technical report, a new type of offering.  The organization’s first technical report serves as a guide, providing a framework for terminology and requirements for increasingly autonomous and complex aviation systems.
