ASTM International Board of Directors to Meet in Beijing - October 16 - 19, 2006

Building on years of successful cooperation with standards organizations in China, Beijing will be the location of the 2006 fall meeting of the ASTM International Board of Directors.  The ASTM Board meetings, as well as other events, will take place in China’s capital city during the week of October 16, 2006.

ASTM Committees on Paints and Weathering to Sponsor Seminar on Weathering Tests for Coatings

ASTM International Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials and Applications, in cooperation with Committee G03 on Weathering and Durability, is sponsoring a technical seminar on recent advances in accelerated weathering tests for coatings on Jan. 23, 2007, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

In a recent communiqué to the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) sought to counter any confusion or misperceptions concerning the implementation and obligations of the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement) with regard to international standards development. 

ASTM International Work Covers Latest in Concrete and Concrete-Making Materials

A new edition of a popular ASTM International publication on concrete expands and updates the information included. STP 169D, Significance of Tests and Properties of Concrete and Concrete-Making Materials, is now available for purchase through ASTM Customer Service.

Joseph Lamond, consulting engineer, and James Peilert, of the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory, edited the volume, which contains the latest technology in concrete and concrete-making materials.

ASTM International to Hold Organizational Meeting for New Activity on 3D Imaging Systems

On June 7, 2006, ASTM International (ASTM) will hold an Organizational Meeting for a new standards development activity on 3D Imaging Systems. The meeting will take place at ASTM Headquarters in West Conshohocken, PA (Directions are located at http://www.astm.org/MEETINGS/directions.htm and hotel information is located at http://www.astm.org/MEETINGS/hotels.htm).  The meeting will commence at 9:00 a.m. and adjourn at approximately 4:00 pm.

ASTM International Launches Online Spanish-Language Magazine

ASTM International has launched an online, quarterly, Spanish-language version of its monthly magazine, Standardization News. The publication is available to everyone through the Magazines and Newsletters link at ASTM’s homepage, www.astm.org.

With translations of selected news and feature articles from the previous three months’ issues, Standardization News en espanol is a convenient source of information for Spanish-speaking professionals interested in ASTM’s international standards development process.

ASTM International Visits Arizona State University

The full attention of undergraduate and graduate engineering students was directed toward the speakers on the evening of February 6 on the Tempe campus of Arizona State University (ASU). There, representatives of ASTM International made presentations on the subject of technical standards to students interested in the field of civil engineering.

ASTM International Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Jordan Institution for Standards and Metrology

The national standards body of Jordan has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with ASTM International. The MOU was signed in December by James Thomas, president, ASTM International, and Yaseen Khayyat, director, Jordan Institution of Standards and Metrology.

"The MOU is the result of the two sides eagerness to create a solid base for their future cooperation," said Khayyat, who added that JISM would now have the opportunity to utilize the resources of ASTM to strengthen the Jordanian national standards system.
