National Standards Body of Jamaica Consults Several ASTM International Standards

Over the past year, several ASTM International standards were consulted for the preparation of Jamaican technical standards, according to the Annual Report submitted to ASTM by the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ).

Established in 1968, the mission of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica is to promote the international competitiveness of Jamaican products, facilitate trade, and protect consumers by providing standardization and metrology services. BSJ and ASTM International signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in 2002.

ASTM International Continues Sponsorship of Nature Programs for Area Elementary Schools

Through an ongoing program sponsored by ASTM International, children at area elementary schools have been learning about science and nature at Riverbend Environmental Education Center in Gladwyne, Pa. Experts from Riverbend visit the schools for classroom lessons, which are reinforced by class field trips to Riverbend. Visits this spring have allowed students to learn first-hand about watersheds, streams and ponds, pollution and macrobiology.

Washington Fire Company Purchases Life Saving Equipment With ASTM International Donation

ASTM International continued its ongoing support of Washington Fire Company No. 1 in Conshohocken, Pa. with a recent donation of over $5,000.  Lifesaving equipment purchased with the donation included 10 digital pagers and a software programming kit, 15 survivor flashlights and three bank chargers that mount in the fire truck and seven PASS devices. PASS devices begin to beep if no motion is detected, indicating the location of a firefighter who may be missing or trapped during an incident.

Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina Adopts ASTM International Standards

[size= small]According to a recent annual report submitted by the Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BAS), a 2002 memorandum of understanding signed by BAS and ASTM International continues to be a success.

The Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina is an autonomous government
administration that issues and publishes national standards and technical regulations. BAS acts on behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina in international, European and other interstate standards organizations.
