ASTM International Continues Sponsorship of Nature Programs for Area Elementary Schools

Through an ongoing program sponsored by ASTM International, children at area elementary schools have been learning about science and nature at Riverbend Environmental Education Center in Gladwyne, Pa. Experts from Riverbend visit the schools for classroom lessons, which are reinforced by class field trips to Riverbend. Visits this spring have allowed students to learn first-hand about watersheds, streams and ponds, pollution and macrobiology.

April 22, Joyce Barton, ASTM Director, Web Site Development, joins third grade children from Conshohocken Elementary School as they learn about composting from Riverbend instructor Nicole DiBiaso.

April 29, Fourth grade students from Bridgeport Elementary School show insect specimens gathered in the stream to David Von Glahn, ASTM Director, Product Development and Promotion.

On May 4, Leah Hepler, ASTM Manager, Accounting and Financial Services, and Treasurer, Riverbend Board of Directors, listens as Stacy Carr-Poole, Director of Education, Riverbend, offers the third grade class from Whitehall Elementary School a lesson using a stream table at Riverbend’s outdoor education pavilion.
