ASTM International, one of the world’s largest standards developing organizations, is seeking nominations for the William T. Cavanaugh Memorial Award. This annual award is granted to a person of widely recognized eminence in the standards system who has made extraordinary contributions to the field of national and international voluntary standards.
National Standards Body of Malaysia Adopts and References ASTM International Standards
The 2008 Annual Report submitted to ASTM International by the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM Berhad) highlights the success of the memorandum of understanding signed by the two organizations in 2003 continues to be a success. A wholly-owned company of the Malaysian government under the Minister of Finance Inc., SIRIM Berhad is the national standards body of Malaysia and the national agency for industrial development.
Philippine Industry and ASTM International Standards
The Bureau of Product Standards (BPS), the national standards body of the Philippines, continues to effectively use ASTM International standards in the development of national standards, according to its annual report to ASTM. ASTM and BPS signed a memorandum of understanding in 2003.
Virtual Training with National Standardization Agency of Indonesia
On Jan. 22, 2009, thirty staff members from Badan Standardisasi Nasional (BSN), the National Standardization Agency of Indonesia, participated in a virtual training session with ASTM International. Topics covered included an overview of ASTM International, the types of standards ASTM develops, ASTM’s committee structure and the ASTM standards development process.

ASTM International, one of the world’s largest standards developing organizations, is accepting papers for the 2009 ASTM Advantage Award, a paper competition with prizes up to $15,000.
ASTM International Accepting Applications for 2009 Mather Scholarship
Applications are currently being accepted for the 2009 ASTM International Katharine and Bryant Mather Scholarship. Administered by ASTM International Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, the scholarship applies to students pursuing degrees specializing in cement or concrete materials technology or concrete construction.
Nepal Bureau of Standards & Metrology and ASTM International Sign MOU
A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by Nepal and the Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM) and ASTM International to strengthen the relationship between the two organizations. The partnership will enhance support for the needs of the people of Nepal, aid Nepal’s economic growth and assist in the development of Nepal national standards for health, safety and the environment.
Dr. Sita Ram Joshi, NBSM director general, and James A. Thomas, ASTM International president, signed the MOU in November 2008.
ASTM International's Support of Riverbend Environmental Education Center Continues
ASTM International, West Conshohocken, Pa., continues its support of Riverbend Environmental Education Center in Gladwyne, Pa. Students from elementary schools in the Norristown Area School District visit Riverbend to gain hands-on experience for the lessons learned in their science classes.

Standards Organization of Nigeria Report Shows Value of Memorandum of Understanding with ASTM International
In its annual report to ASTM International, the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) noted that Nigeria is effectively using ASTM standards both for adoption and as references within other standards. SON and ASTM International signed a memorandum of understanding in late 2004.
Signing Ceremony of MOU between ASTM International and Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology Held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology (QS), Doha, and ASTM International celebrated their partnership with an Oct. 15 ceremonial signing of their Memorandum of Understanding in Dubai, UAE. The MOU was formally signed and implemented by both organizations in September 2007.
