Amy A. Costello, P.E., has been elected to the 2012 ASTM International board of directors for a three-year term. Costello is a senior environmental scientist at Armstrong World Industries Inc., a global floor, ceiling and cabinet design and manufacturing corporation based in Lancaster, Pa.

Kaphong Choi, vice president and head of the office of the Korea Battery Industry Association in Seoul, Korea, has been elected to serve on the ASTM International board of directors.

Dale F. Bohn, quality manager for Flint Hills Resources LP, an independent refining and chemicals company in St. Paul, Minn., has been elected to the ASTM International board of directors for a three-year term.

ASTM International sponsored a trip to Riverbend Environmental Educational Center for about 90 second-grade Bridgeport Elementary School students on Nov. 10. The students went to Riverbend to learn more about animals in their natural habitats as part of their science curriculum.

Dr. Theodore A. Steinberg, professor of built environment and engineering in the School of Engineering Systems at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, has received the 2011 Professor of the Year Award from ASTM International. The ASTM Professor of the Year Award recognizes and rewards the contributions of educators in developing students’ understanding of standards.

New York City will be the site of the 2011 fall meeting of the ASTM International board of directors. The ASTM board meetings, as well as other events, will take place in the Big Apple on October 23-26, 2011.


According to a recent annual report, Peru’s Instituto Nacional de Defensa de la Competencia y de la Protección de la Propiedad Intelectual (INDECOPI) has adopted several ASTM International standards though the ASTM Memorandum of Understanding Program (MOU).  INDECOPI signed an MOU with ASTM in 2003.
