APEC/ASEAN Conference on Green Buildings and Green Growth Emphasizes Cooperation on Standards to Reduce Trade Barriers

ASTM Proficiency Testing Programs (PTP) are statistical quality assurance programs that enable laboratories to assess their performance in conducting test methods within their own laboratories when their data are compared against other laboratories that participate worldwide in the same program.

For today’s college students looking to increase their real-world skills and enhance their marketability to potential employers, ASTM International is offering its “Jumpstart Your Career” initiative throughout 2011. Highlighted by ASTM student membership opportunities, senior design project grants, a student video contest, scholarships and more, the campaign is aimed at expanding student knowledge and involvement in the diverse field of standards.

The Mauritius Standards Bureau (MSB) reports that it has recently referenced several ASTM International mechanical testing standards through the ASTM Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) program. ASTM and MSB signed an MOU in 2005.

ASTM International sponsored four visits from Riverbend Environmental Education Center to the summer day camp program at Conshohocken Catholic School in Conshohocken, Pa. On a recent visit from Mary Westlund, Environmental Educator, Riverbend, during “beach and water week” children learned about aquatic life.

ASTM International continued its support of area fire companies with a donation of $2,030 to the George Clay Fire Company in West Conshohocken, Pa. This donation was used by George Clay to purchase an MSA Orion gas meter for use on the company’s new 2010 KME 100-foot aerial fire truck.

ASTM International has continued its support of the Fellowship House of Conshohocken with a $9,500.00 donation to support the 2011 summer camp.

Again this year, ASTM International has made a $5,000 donation to Conshohocken Free Library.

First graders from Bridgeport Elementary School met a turtle, a snake and other animals during their June 1 class trip to Riverbend Environmental Education Center.  The trip was part of ASTM International’s ongoing sponsorship of educational programs at Riverbend.

Joining the class in their Riverbend lesson on reptiles and amphibians was Timothy Brooke, vice president, Certification, Training and Proficiency Testing, ASTM International.

The Institute for Standardization of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BAS) has submitted its most recent annual report to ASTM International on its use of ASTM standards through the Memorandum of Understanding program (MoU). BAS signed an MoU with ASTM International in 2002.
