ASTM Signs Agreement with Alliance FiiDEM in Mexico

Alliance FiiDEM to Share Information on ASTM Throughout Latin America

In an initiative to cooperate in knowledge sharing about ASTM International in Latin America, ASTM has signed a letter of cooperation with the Alliance for Training and Research Infrastructure for the Development of Mexico (Alliance FiiDEM). Through the agreement, ASTM will work with FiiDEM to strengthen and upgrade scientific information on issues related to infrastructure through cooperation with the public and private sectors in the form of discussions and events.

The alliance will also report ASTM-related news in Spanish via an electronic bulletin and cover relevant issues for industries such as concrete, additives, petroleum and steel, among others, in addition to scientific events related to various sectors.

Alliance FiiDEM is a not-for-profit organization that includes members from government, business, professional associations and business chambers. Members include engineers, architects and university representatives.

The agreement between FiiDEM and ASTM was signed during a visit to Mexico by Teresa Cendrowska, vice president, global cooperation, ASTM, and James Olshefsky, director, external relations, global cooperation, ASTM, on Nov. 7-8, 2011. The letter of cooperation, signed by Alfonso Lavín Ramírez, director general, FiiDEM, and Cendrowska, focuses on various aspects of training, including virtual meetings, technical assistance, intensive training programs and academic outreach. Cendrowska and Olshefsky joined ASTM’s Mexico representatives Luis Ordóñez and Vanessa Corona, to make seven presentations to professional groups of civil engineers, construction management firms, architects and universities that are members of FiiDEM.
