ASTM Vacuum Cleaners Committee Invites Participation in Virtual Meeting on Energy Measurements

ASTM International Committee F11 on Vacuum Cleaners invites all interested parties to participate in a virtual meeting regarding a new standards developing activity on vacuum cleaner energy measurements. The meeting will be held June 25 at 10:00 a.m. EDT. Through this activity, Committee F11 plans to develop a standard or set of standards that will aid in increasing the energy efficiency of vacuum cleaners.

Proposed New ASTM Vadose Zone Standard to Aid in Vapor Intrusion Evaluations

A proposed new practice being developed by ASTM Subcommittee D18.21 on Ground Water and Vadose Zone Investigations will cover techniques for actively collecting soil gas samples from the vadose zone beneath buildings. WK18835, Practice for Active Soil Gas Sampling in the Vadose Zone for Vapor Intrusion Evaluations, is under the jurisdiction of ASTM International Committee D18 on Soil and Rock.

ASTM to Participate in Nanotechnology Workshop

A workshop on the role of standards in the emerging field of nanotechnology will be held Oct. 8-9, 2008, at the National Institute of Standards and Technology near Washington, D.C. The workshop, "Enabling Standards for Nanomaterial Characterization," is being co-sponsored by the National Cancer Institute's Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and ASTM International.

Copper Industry Requests Lead to New ASTM Standard for Oxygen in Copper

Responding to requests from representatives of the copper industry, ASTM International Committee E01 on Analytical Chemistry for Metals, Ores and Related Materials has developed a new standard, E2575, Test Method for Determination of Oxygen in Copper and Copper Alloys. The new standard is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee E01.05 on Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Sn, Be, Their Alloys and Related Metals.

Two New ASTM Standards Display Range of Paint Committee Activities

Two new standards demonstrate the broad range of practices and test methods currently being developed by ASTM International Committee D01 on Paint and Related Coatings, Materials and Applications. The new ASTM standards will be used in the realms of color reproduction and contact angle measurement.
