Copper Industry Requests Lead to New ASTM Standard for Oxygen in Copper

Responding to requests from representatives of the copper industry, ASTM International Committee E01 on Analytical Chemistry for Metals, Ores and Related Materials has developed a new standard, E2575, Test Method for Determination of Oxygen in Copper and Copper Alloys. The new standard is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee E01.05 on Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Sn, Be, Their Alloys and Related Metals.

According to Aaron Walczewski, product manager, Leco Corp., and E01 member, E2575 will provide process quality control and compositional specifications relative to oxygen content in copper and copper alloys. "The users of this standard will include copper producers and end users in electronics industries like sputter target manufacturing for semiconductors and wire manufacturing for military and consumer electronics," says Walczewski.

Subcommittee E01.05 welcomes industry input on E2575's scope and procedures for future revisions of the standard.
