Papers Invited for ASTM Workshop on Sensor Technology in Mechanical, Fatigue, and Fracture Testing

Papers are invited for ASTM International’s Workshop on Novel and Emerging Uses of Sensor Technology in Mechanical, Fatigue, and Fracture Testing, to be held May 7, 2025, in Toronto, Canada. The event is sponsored by ASTM International’s fatigue and fracture committee (E08) and mechanical testing committee (E28) and will be held in conjunction with the committees’ standards development meetings.

This workshop will provide a forum to discuss new applications of measurement methods, and new ways of working, to control and analyze fatigue and fracture tests. This will facilitate the work of E08.03, about ensuring that standards include appropriate, normative, and informative specifications for the latest methods of control, measurement, and analysis.

Specific topics might include (but are not limited to):

  • Use of non-contacting extensometry for sensitive materials;
  • Novel measurement approaches for miniature specimens;
  • Application of full-field strain measurement for test control;
  • Use of DIC in analysis of ductile fracture behavior;
  • Improved analysis of fatigue performance using full-field stress or strain measurement;
  • Novel approaches to temperature control;
  • Diffraction studies of material structure during loading;
  • Sensor technology-related issues (e.g., instrumentation, dynamometers, and accelerometers) in E467 Dynamic Force Verification.

To participate in the workshop, authors must submit a 250- to 300-word abstract to the workshop chairs, Jidong Kang (jidong.kang@nrcan-rncan.gc.ca), Peter Bailey (peter_bailey@instron.com), or Wes Womack, (wwomack@epsilontech.com) no later than Dec. 31, 2024.
