ASTM International, IFC Sign Memorandum of Understanding for Global PPE Activity

Global standards organization ASTM International and International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group, today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote the use of personal protective equipment in select countries around the world.

Global standards organization ASTM International is set to host an introductory webinar on the recently announced collaboration forum on personal protective equipment (PPE). The webinar will take place Tuesday, March 16, 2021, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM ET, via Zoom. 

ASTM International Launches Student Chapter at UTEC in Peru

Earlier this week, global standards organization ASTM International launched a new student chapter at UTEC, the Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología, in Lima, Peru. More than 30 UTEC students, faculty, and ASTM representatives attended the virtual meeting to launch and celebrate the new chapter.

UTEC Student Chapter members will be ASTM student members and will be able to apply for student project grants and other academic awards offered by ASTM International. The chapter is sponsored by the ASTM precast concrete products committee (C27). 

Exo Technology Center of Excellence Seeks Proposals for Return to Work Exoskeleton and Related Technologies

ASTM International, a global leader in standards and emerging technologies, announced today a request for proposals to support the Exo Technology Center of Excellence (ET CoE) Research to Standards project for return to work (RTW) exoskeleton and related technologies. The center anticipates providing up to $136,000 for a single project or multiple projects at lesser amounts up to a total of $136,000.

ASTM International Supports Two New Research Projects for Additive Manufacturing

ASTM International’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) announced awardees of its Call for Projects (CFP) in support of its Research to Standards initiative to further accelerate standards development for additive manufacturing (AM).  

For the first time, the CFP allowed non-AM CoE partners to propose and receive support for projects focused on closing AM standardization gaps. A review process was conducted by a panel of experts from the ASTM F42 additive manufacturing group on research and innovation, resulting in the selection of two high-impact projects.

ASTM International Transitions May, June In-Person Standards Meetings to All Virtual

In light of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and ongoing safety concerns for members and staff, ASTM International announced today that all previously scheduled in-person May and June standards development meetings (including D02 and independent meetings) have been transitioned to all virtual. 

Last month, ASTM International announced that all April in-person meetings would be transitioned to virtual as well. 

Presentations Invited for the 2021 ASTM International Conference on Additive Manufacturing

Presentations are invited for the 2021 ASTM International Conference on Additive Manufacturing (ICAM 2021), hosted by the ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) and supported by more than a dozen ASTM technical committees. This conference will be held November 1-5, 2021. 

ICAM 2021 is ASTM International’s sixth annual flagship event related to standardization, qualification, and certification with a focus on industry-specific requirements addressing the entire additive manufacturing process chain. 

Bill Griese Begins Term as ASTM International Finance and Audit Committee Chair

Bill Griese, director of standards development and sustainability initiatives for the Tile Council of North America (Anderson, South Carolina, USA), has started his term as finance and audit committee chair of the ASTM International board of directors.

Griese was appointed to the executive committee by the ASTM International board of directors. He previously served on the board from 2018 to 2020.

William A. Ells Begins Two-Year Term as ASTM International Board Vice Chair

William A. Ells, vice president of sales at Vibram USA (North Brookfield, Massachusetts, USA), has started his two-year term as vice chair of the ASTM International board of directors. 

Ells was elected to the executive committee as vice chair by the ASTM membership. He previously served on the board of directors from 2018 to 2020 and as finance and audit committee chair in 2020. 

Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence Announces New Additions to Advisory Board

ASTM International’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) announced six new additions to the advisory board, representing key stakeholders from government, industry, research institutes, and non-profit organizations.
