ASTM Sensory Science Award Received by Chris Simons
ASTM’s sensory evaluation committee (E18) has presented its 2024 David R. Peryam Award to Chris Simons, associate professor of sensory science at Ohio State University. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of basic and applied sensory science.
Simons’ career concentration is sensory and consumer science, with a focus on new methodologies for creating healthier food and improving the product development cycle. He has over 100 peer-reviewed publications, and his research has been featured on National Public Radio’s “Science Friday” and on NBC’s “Nightly News.”
Simons is a member of the Society of Sensory Professionals, the Association for Chemoreception Sciences, and the Institute of Food Technologists. He is also affiliated with the Phi Tau Sigma Food Science Honorary.
Simons has held his current position at Ohio State University since 2019, but has been with the school since 2013. He received his doctorate in sensory science from University of California, Davis in 2002.
