ASTM Honors Joseph Sinicrope with Nuclear Technology Award

ASTM International’s Nuclear Technology and Applications Committee (E10) has presented its Peter D. Hedgecock Award to Joseph Sinicrope, research scientist for the Applied Research Center at Florida International University (FIU).

Sinicrope was recognized for his sustained and exceptional contribution to the development and use of consensus standards in the field of nuclear technology and its applications.

An ASTM International member since 2016, Sinicrope serves as the chair for the E10.03 subcommittee and is the faculty advisor to ASTM’s first ever student chapter at a U.S. university, established at FIU. Prior to joining FIU, he served as a United States Marine Corps officer for 22 years, commanding and leading organizations at various levels in countries across the globe.

Sinicrope’s career concentration as a scientist includes several topics. He contributes to fixative technologies supporting the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) in nuclear deactivation and decommissioning activities. In part through consensus-based standards, his work supports technology adoption and diffusion. He also furthers the education and mentorship of STEM students from underrepresented communities.

Sinicrope earned his master of science degree in technology leadership from Brown University in 2019, and his master of business administration degree from FIU in 2015.
