ASTM International Awards Karthik Obla with Katharine and Bryant Mather Award

ASTM International presented Karthik Obla with its 2022 Katharine and Bryant Mather Member Contribution Award, administered by its committee on concrete and concrete aggregates (C09).

The award is given annually for outstanding contributions in pioneering standards for pervious concrete, and for general enhancement of cement and concrete technology standards.

Since 2009, Obla has been vice president of technical services at the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (Alexandria, VA). With over 30 years’ experience, his initiatives have driven quality, sustainability, advocacy, performance specifications, innovation, and education in the concrete industry. After receiving his bachelor’s of technology in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Obla went on to receive his master’s of science and Ph.D. in the same field from the University of Michigan.

Beyond ASTM, his other professional affiliations have included the American Concrete Institute, American Coal Ash Association, and Transportation Research Board.
