ASTM International’s plastic piping systems committee (F17), presented the Frank W. Reinhart and Henry “Butch” Kuhlman Award to James Goddard, retired (Powell, Ohio, USA). 

An ASTM International member since 1980, Goddard was recognized for his faithful and significant contributions in further the cause of sound and effective plastics piping standardization. Goddard has also been recognized with the Paul Finn Memorial Award (2013), Award of Appreciation (2013), 30 Years’ Service Award (2019), and the Award of Merit (2009). He is also a member of the committees on soil and rock (D18), plastics (D20), and geosynthetics (D35).

Goddard served as chief engineer with Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc., in Hilliard, Ohio, from 1993 until his retirement in 2010. He also held positions with Armco Steel Metal Product Division, Burgess & Niple, Ltd., and Florida Steel Corp. Goddard has 14 U.S. Patents and has published numerous papers and articles. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering operations, metallurgy, from North Carolina State University. 

In addition to ASTM International, Goddard is a member of the National Academy of Science, an emeritus member of the National Transportation Research Board Subsurface Soil-Structure Interaction committee, and member of two National Cooperative Highway Research Program panels.
