Thomas Szymanski Honored with Top Annual Award from ASTM International Catalyst Committee

Thomas Szymanski was presented with ASTM International’s highest recognition for individual contributions to developing standards – the Award of Merit – by former ASTM Board Chair Taco van der Maten. The prestigious award also includes the title of fellow. Szymanski recently retired as director of new technologies at Saint-Gobain NorPro (Stow, Ohio, USA). 

Szymanski was honored late last year for outstanding and dedicated service to the ASTM International catalysts committee (D32), with a commitment to establishing new and advanced catalyst characterization methods, and for esteemed technical expertise, leadership, and professionalism.  

An ASTM International member since 1984, Szymanski has also been honored by the committee with the Award of Appreciation (1999) and the Outgoing Chairman Award (2008). 

Szymanski has held his former position since 2011, having previously held other positions with Saint-Gobain NorPro and with Norton Chemical Process Products. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and both a master’s and a doctorate degree in inorganic chemistry from Northwestern University. 

In addition to ASTM International, Szymanski is a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Ceramics Society.
