ASTM International to Host Virtual Meeting on Flammability Regulations for Textiles in India

ASTM International, one of the largest international standards development and delivery systems in the world, will host an online “Ask the Expert” event on flammability regulations for textiles with Allyson Tenney of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on April 12, 2012.

The virtual event, which is being offered exclusively to ASTM International members in South Asia, will be held through WebEx from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. India time. The meeting will include an interactive question and answer session covering the following topics:

• Overview of U.S. flammability regulations and its impact on exporters in India;
• Clarifications on the existing regulations on flammability and the new Consumer Product
• Safety improvement Act (CPSIA);
• Third-party testing;
• Liability issues;
• And more.

Allyson Tenney is team leader of the Textile Flammability Team in the Office of Compliance and Field Operations at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), where she addresses a variety of flammability issues related to textile product safety and enforces the regulations under the Flammable Fabrics Act (FFA). Before joining the Office of Compliance, Allyson served as a textile technologist in the Directorate for Engineering Sciences at CPSC, where she managed several projects related to textile flammability and fire safety.

This event will be of interest to merchandisers, internal auditors, NABL auditors, lab managers, senior quality control managers, textile marketing professionals and third-party lab personnel. The cost to attend the workshop is: $15 USD for ASTM members; $30 USD for non-ASTM members; and $5 USD for student members. Payments may be received in Indian Rupees; applicable taxes will be extra.
