Service de Normalisation Industrielle Marocaine References Several ASTM International Petroleum Standards

Per a recent annual report, the Service de Normalisation Industrielle Marocaine (SNIMA) and ASTM International continue to benefit from the memorandum of understanding (MOU) the parties signed in 2003.

Established in 1970, SNIMA, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Industry, coordinates all national standards development activities in Morocco, with a focus on quality research and improving productivity.  They also oversee certification and training.

SNIMA reported that this year, a total of eight ASTM International standards were referenced in Morocco regulations, and more than 60 ASTM standards were consulted or referenced in the development of Morocco national standards.  The majority of the standards were from ASTM Committee D02 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants, which has jurisdiction over more than 750 international standards on petroleum.

Initiated in 2001, ASTM International's MOU program promotes communication between ASTM International and national standards bodies worldwide, fostering awareness of the standardization systems of all parties involved. The purpose of the program is to increase greater worldwide participation in the ASTM standards development process and facilitate the development of national standards that will aid health, safety, and environmental and economic conditions. More information on the MOU program can be found on the ASTM International Web site (www.astm.org/GLOBAL).
