ASTM International Award of Merit Presented to Ricky Magee

Ricky W. Magee, director of analytical services at Columbian Chemicals Co. (CCC) in Marietta, Ga., has received an ASTM International Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow.  The Award of Merit is the highest organizational honor for individual contributions to standards activities.

Magee was recognized "for exceptional contributions to Committee D24 on Carbon Black in the development of new analytical standards, for improvement of existing standards, and for strong leadership in developing international standards for the global market."

An ASTM International member since 1990, Magee is an active member of Committee D24, where he currently serves as chairman of the main committee and also leads Subcommittee D24.41 on Carbon Black Nomenclature and Terminology.  His work across multiple D24 subcommittees has contributed to the continuous improvement and development of test methods for the carbon black industry.  In 2000, Committee D24 honored him with the  Distinguished Service Award.  In addition to D24, he is also a member of Committee D11 on Rubber. 

A graduate of Northeast Louisiana University where he received both a B.S. and an M.S. in chemistry, Magee has been with Columbian Chemical Co. since 1984, starting as analytical chemist in the research and development center.  He then spent ten years as manager of Columbian's colloidal and oil laboratories before assuming his current role in 2000.  As director of analytical services, he supports technical services, research and development, and the quality assurance activities of the department by overseeing the analytical, microscopy and material analysis labs.

Outside of ASTM International, Magee is a member of the American Chemical Society and the Microscopy Society of America.
