ASTM International Committee on Soil and Rock Names Ronald Ebelhar as Chairman

Ronald J. Ebelhar, senior principal at H.C. Nutting Co. (a Terracon Company) in Cincinnati, Ohio, has been named the new chairman of ASTM International Committee D18 on Soil and Rock. The 900-member committee is responsible for more than 350 standards published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards.

A resident of Cincinnati, Ebelhar has been an ASTM International member since 1980.  He has chaired several D18 subcommittees and is the current chair of Subcommittees D18.80 on Planning and D18.98 on the Hogentogler Award.  Committee D18 has honored Ebelhar for his many contributions with the ASTM Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow as well as the Woodland G. Shockley Award, the A. Ivan Johnson Outstanding Achievement Award and the Committee D18 Technical Editor's Award for STP 1213, Dynamic Geotechnical Testing II.

A graduate of the University of Kentucky in Lexington where he received both his B.S. and M.S. in civil engineering, Ebelhar has served as project manager and senior consultant in connection with selected geotechnical and environmental engineering projects worldwide.  He has provided design and consulting services for a variety of commercial, industrial, waste disposal and public utility applications, and he has completed environmental site evaluations, geotechnical engineering design and construction services, and marine geoscience and engineering field explorations. 

Ebelhar has been with H.C. Nutting Co. since 1996.  In addition to ASTM International, he is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers and the National Groundwater Association and a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
