ASTM International Honors Richard Danchik with Moyer D. Thomas Award

Richard Danchik, a consultant based in Pittsburgh, Pa., has received the Moyer D. Thomas Award from ASTM International Committee D22 on Air Quality.  The committee recognized Danchik "for outstanding achievement in the standardization of the sampling and analysis of atmospheres."

An ASTM International member for more than 30 years, Danchik is active in several subcommittees within Committee D22, where he currently serves as vice chairman on the main committee and chairman of Subcommittee D22.01 on Quality Control.  He is also a member of Committees D19 on Water and E35 on Pesticides and Alternative Control Agents.

After receiving a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich., in 1968, Danchik joined the staff of Alcoa in Pittsburgh, Pa., as a scientist.  He was promoted to senior scientist and then manager of the environmental health laboratory, a position he held for 17 years until his retirement in 1996.  Danchik received his B.S. in chemistry from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pa.

In addition to ASTM International, Danchik is a councilor for the American Chemical Society  and a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association; the American Institute of Chemists, where he is a fellow; the Alcoa chapter of Sigma Xi; Phi Lambda Upsilon; the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh; and the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh.  He is also a former president of the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy (PITTCON).
