Stephen Markle Receives ASTM International John Haas Memorial Award

ASTM International Committee F25 on Ships and Marine Technology has honored Stephen P. Markle, P.E., engineering director at Navalis Environmental Systems, LLC, with the John Haas Memorial Award.  Markle was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the work of F25, a committee that specializes in the development of standards related to shipbuilding and marine vessels.

A resident of Alexandria, Va., Markle joined ASTM International in 1997.  He is active in Committee F25 and its various subcommittees, and serves as chairman of Subcommittee  F25.06 on Marine Environmental Protection. 

Markle, who earned both a master's degree in mechanical engineering and the Naval  Engineering degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., served in the U.S. Navy from 1984 until his retirement in 2004.  As a U.S. naval engineering duty officer, he specialized in marine environmental protection/pollution control and ship design and program management. 

A graduate of the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, N.Y., where he received a bachelor's degree in forest engineering, Markle has been with Navalis Environmental Systems, LLC since 2005.  As engineering director, his work focuses on research and development and introduction of innovative advanced oxidation wastewater treatment systems.

In addition to ASTM International, Markle is a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME).
