Ronald J. Ebelhar Honored with W.G. Shockley Award by ASTM Committee D18

ASTM International Committee D18 honored Ronald J. Ebelhar, vice president of Environmental Services for H.C. Nutting Co. (a Terracon company), in Cincinnati, Ohio, with the Woodland G. Shockley Memorial Award in January. D18 recognized Ebelhar for his exceptional and long-term meritorious contributions to the committee. The award, established in 1992, honors Woodland G. Shockley, a Fellow and Honorary Member of the Society who devoted more than 36 years of distinguished service and leadership to Committee D18.

Ebelhar also lives in Cincinnati, Ohio.

An ASTM International member since 1980, Ebelhar serves as D18 first vice chair and chairs Subcommittees D18.80 on Planning and D18.98 on the Hogentogler Award as well as other D18 groups. He is an ASTM Fellow and Award of Merit winner, as well as a recipient of the A. Ivan Johnson Outstanding Achievement Award and the Committee D18 Technical Editor's Award for STP 1213, Dynamic Geotechnical Testing II.

In addition to ASTM International, Ebelhar is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Groundwater Association and the Society of American Military Engineers. He earned his B.S. and M.S. in civil engineering from the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

Professionally, Ebelhar has been a project manager and senior consultant for geotechnical and environmental engineering projects worldwide. His projects have included assignments for commercial, industrial, waste disposal and public utility organizations, and he has completed environmental site evaluations, geotechnical engineering design and construction, and marine geoscience and engineering field explorations.

Before joining the staff of H.C. Nutting Co., Ebelhar held positions as division manager for Rust Environment & Infrastructure in Cincinnati and as a staff engineer and consultant for McClelland Engineers in Houston, Texas.
