The highest ASTM International recognition for individual contributions to standards development activities-the Award of Merit and the accompanying title of fellow-has been conferred on Ann Brozena Butrow, a research chemist with the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC), Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. ASTM International Committee E37 on Thermal Measurements cited Butrow for her contributions, her leadership and her focus on standard tests and terminology related to thermal analysis.

Butrow lives in Bel Air, Md.

Now first vice chair of E37 and chair of Subcommittee E37.03 on Nomenclature and Definitions, Butrow first became involved with ASTM in 1992 as part of an E37 task group to standardize vapor pressure measurements. She continues with that group to this day. Butrow, who has also been honored with an E37 Award of Appreciation, ensures that E37 work progresses in a timely fashion and ensures that the committee has standard nomenclature and definitions to use in its standards. In addition, Butrow has been an important contributor to a number of the committee's standards.

Following her graduation from Loyola College in Baltimore, Md., with a B.S. in chemistry, Butrow became a research chemist with ECBC. Throughout her professional life, she has focused on investigating the physical and thermal properties of chemicals.
