G. Douglas Glysson, P.E., P.H., Elected Chair of ASTM International Committee D19 on Water

G. Douglas Glysson, P.E., P.H., a hydrologist for the U.S. Geological Survey, Reston, Va., has been elected chair of ASTM International Committee D19 on Water. In this position he leads the committee of 400 members who are responsible for close to 300 standards mainly related to the sampling and analysis of water, waterborne materials, and water-formed deposits.

Glysson, who joined ASTM International in 1983, serves on several D19 technical standards-writing committees. He is also a member of Committee D18 on Soil and Rock, and outside ASTM, is secretary of the Board of Registration for the American Institute of Hydrology.

Author of more than 35 publications on sediment data collection, analysis and transport, Glysson has more than 36 years of experience working with the USGS as a hydrologic engineer, hydrologist and supervisory hydrologist. He has taught the USGS Sediment Field Data Collection Techniques and Sediment Records Computation and Interpretation courses as well as numerous short courses.

Glysson has served as chair of two Federal Interagency Sedimentation Conferences and recently chaired the Joint 8th Federal Interagency Sedimentation and 3rd Hydrologic Modeling Conferences. He has been the USGS representative on the Subcommittee on Sedimentation of the Advisory Committee on Water Information (an advisory committee to the Secretary of the Interior) and has chaired the group several times, and he has been involved with the technical committee that oversees the Federal Interagency Sedimentation Project.

A graduate of the California State University, Sacramento, where he earned his B.S. in civil engineering, Glysson received an M.S. in engineering administration from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
