Dr. Paul Shipp Elected to ASTM International Board of Directors

Paul H. Shipp, Ph.D., P.E., has been elected to the ASTM International board of directors for the term 2007-2009. Shipp, a senior research associate for the USG Research and Technology Innovation Center in Libertyville, Ill., advises research and operating management on strategic issues, trends, and developments related to building products, codes, and standards. He also directs research for major projects.

Shipp lives in Libertyville, Ill.

Earl A. Ruth Elected to ASTM International Board of Directors

Earl A. Ruth, director of technology for Tinius Olsen Testing Machine Co. in Horsham, Pa., has been named to a three-year term, 2007-2009, on the board of directors of ASTM International. Currently he is also a member of the Tinius Olsen Executive Committee, which has responsibility for the daily operations of the company.

Ruth lives in West Rockhill Twp., Pa.

Thomas A. Schwartz, P.E., Honored with 2006 Voss Award by ASTM International

The 2006 ASTM International Walter C. Voss Award honors the leadership and service of Thomas A. Schwartz, P.E., to the international building technology industry for more than 30 years. Mr. Schwartz is president/senior principal and head of the Building Technology Group at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. (SGH).

Dr. Dennis Hetzner Receives ASTM International Award of Merit and Title of Fellow

Dennis W. Hetzner, Ph.D., a senior materials specialist for the Timken Co. in Canton, Ohio, has been honored with a 2006 ASTM International Award of Merit. Committee E04 on Metallography recognized Hetzner for his "outstanding contributions in advancing the standardization of quantitative materials characterization and leadership" in the committee.
