Thermal Insulation Committee Elects Andre O. Desjarlais as New Chairman

ASTM Committee C16 on Thermal Insulation has elected Andre O. Desjarlais, group leader at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tenn., as its new chairman. The committee has a membership of 350 who maintain 145 standards published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards.

Desjarlais lives in Knoxville, Tenn.

An ASTM International member since 1981, Desjarlais serves on several Committee C16 groups as well as on Committee D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing. Outside ASTM International, he is a member of American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, the Roof Industry Committee on Weather Issues, the Roof Consultants Institute, and the Single Ply Roofing Institute.

After his graduation from Boston University with a B.S. in aeronautics, Desjarlais joined Dynatech Research and Development Company in Cambridge, Mass., as laboratory manager. He joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 1991 and assumed his current position in 1998. Desjarlais currently concentrates on the energy efficiency of building materials and systems with experimental and analytical methods.
