Susan S. Sorini Named Chair of ASTM Committee D34 on Waste Management

Susan S. Sorini, lead scientist at the Western Research Institute in Laramie, Wyo., has become chair of ASTM Committee D34 on Waste Management. The committee includes approximately 270 industry professionals and experts who are responsible for 125 standards published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards.

Sorini also lives in Laramie.

An ASTM International member since 1986, Sorini also leads D34.01 on Monitoring and Characterization and works on numerous D34 standards-writing groups. In addition, she serves on Committee E50 on Environmental Assessment, Risk Management and Corrective Action. Last year she completed a two-year term on the ASTM Committee on Standards.

Sorini has been lead scientist since 2003. She held various technical positions at the institute before assuming her current role. Her work has focused on environmental method and product development and validation as well as environmental consulting.

A member of the American Chemical Society in addition to ASTM International, Sorini has an associate's degree in biology and a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology in Butte, Mont.
