ASTM Fastener Committee Approves New Zinc Coating Standard
ASTM International Committee F16 on Fasteners has recently approved an important new standard that deals with coated threaded fasteners and washers by hot-dip zinc galvanizing. The standard, F 2329, Specification for Zinc Coating, Hot-Dip, Requirements for Application to Carbon and Alloy Steel Bolts, Screws, Washers, Nuts and Special Threaded Fasteners, is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee F16.03 on Coatings on Fasteners.
Task Group on Cavitation Erosion Testing Seeks New Participants
A task group of ASTM International Committee G02 on Wear and Erosion is seeking interested parties to participate in the revision of ASTM G 32, Test Method on Cavitation Erosion Using Vibratory Apparatus. The standard and the task group are under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee G02.10 on Erosion by Solids and Liquids.

High Security Fences and Perimeter Barriers Are the Focus of a New ASTM Subcommittee
ASTM International Committee F14 on Fences is currently seeking participation in recently formed Subcommittee F14.50 on High Security Fences and Perimeter Barriers. The purpose of the new subcommittee is to develop a series of standards that address a higher level of security fencing and perimeter barrier than currently exist.
Blood Cleaning Efficiency Guide Is Developed by ASTM Committee on Soaps and Other Detergents
Dried blood represents the greatest challenge to cleaning surgical instruments. To meet this challenge, ASTM International Committee D12 on Soaps and Other Detergents has developed a new standard, D 7225, Guide for Blood Cleaning Efficiency of Detergents and Washer-Disinfectors. The new guide is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee D12.16 on Hard Surface Cleaning.
Committee on Sports Equipment Develops Standard for Pole Vaulting Helmets
After Penn State University student-athlete Kevin Dare was killed in a pole vaulting accident in early 2002, his father, Edward Dare, and Penn State athletic director Timothy Curley organized a meeting to address safety issues in the track and field event. Immediately following this meeting, several attendees met at the spring 2002 meeting of ASTM International Committee F08 on Sports Equipment and Facilities, where the initial groundwork was done on a standard for pole vaulting helmets.
ASTM International Committee D10 on Packaging Names Patrick J. Nolan New Chair
Patrick J. Nolan, chief operating officer and co-owner of DDL, Inc., in Eden Prairie, Minn., has been named the new chairman of ASTM Committee D10 on Packaging. The 350-member committee is responsible for more than 130 standards published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards.
Nolan lives in Chanhassen, Minn.
