Ricardo Rodrigues Fragoso Named to ASTM International Board of Directors

Ricardo Rodrigues Fragoso, general director of Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas in São Paulo, Brazil, has been named to a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors.

After earning his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Taubaté in São Paulo, Brazil, Fragoso began his career at the National Steel Co. (CSN). He held a variety of positions there, rising to the position of executive director, where he supervised engineering, maintenance, logistics, utilizes, supplies, repair shop, foundry, financial services and human resources. After gaining additional professional experience as chief executive officer and technical director for two elevator companies, Fragoso assumed his current role in 2003.

While at CSN, Fragoso was an active participant in community affairs and received the title  Honorary Citizen of Volta Redonda in recognition of his service to the community. He was a title member of the Council of Administration at MRS Logisitics S.A., a company created after the privatization of Brazil's Southeastern Railway, and he participated in the privatization of the Companhia Vale do Rio Doce.

Fragoso, who holds an M.B.A. from Federal University, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the Council of the Comissao Pan Americana de Normas Técnicas (COPANT), and the Brazilian Committee on Standardization. In addition, he is treasury director of Associação Mercosul de Normalização and president of the Brazilian Committee of Conformity Assessment, and he is a member of the ISO committee for policies and strategies.
