Penn State Prof. Dr. Jack S. Brenizer Elected Chairman of ASTM International Nondestructive Testing Committee

Jack. S. Brenizer, Jr., Ph.D., professor and chair of nuclear engineering at The Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pa., has been elected chair of ASTM International Committee E07 on Nondestructive Testing, a committee of 400 members who have jurisdiction over 175 standards published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards.

 Brenizer lives in Port Matilda, Pa.

An ASTM International member since 1984, Brenizer is active in a number of Committee E07 standards development and administrative subcommittees. Outside ASTM International, he is a member of the American Nuclear Society, the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, the American Society for Engineering Education, the Health Physics Society, the International Society for Neutron Radiography, and Sigma Xi.

In addition to his faculty responsibilities, Brenizer researches radiation detection, neutron radiography and imaging, and neutron activation analysis, which he has covered in the more than 120 papers he has written and presented. He has served as the U.S. representative of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in neutron radiography activities.

After he earned his Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from Penn State, where he also received his master's in engineering science, Brenizer joined the faculty of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He became a professor at Penn State in 1999.
