New Standard Provides Guidance on Inert Gas Fusion Instruments

ASTM International’s analytical chemistry for metals, ores, and related materials committee (E01) has approved a new standard that covers information and procedures for using combustion and inert gas fusion instruments.

Combustion and inert gas fusion instruments are used to determine the mass fraction of carbon, sulfur, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen in metals, ores, and related materials.

According to ASTM member Lee Dilks, the new standard (E3346) will help material laboratory technicians who are considering using combustion or the inert gas fusion method to analyze materials to understand available instruments and the different options they offer.
