Registration Open for ASTM International AM Medical Device Verification Workshop

Registration has opened for ASTM’s Additive Manufacturing (AM) Medical Device Verification Workshop, to be held virtually on March 19, 2024. The workshop is organized by ASTM’s additive manufacturing technologies committee (F42), more specifically its AM medical applications subcommittee (F42.07.03).

According to ASTM member Ryan Kircher of rms Company, this free workshop will help drive the future of additive manufactured medical device testing by pinpointing key new standards that could benefit from either standardization or further development. It will include several speakers including new technology providers, representatives from the FDA and industry leading AM contract manufacturers.

“AM has been used to produce medical devices for over 20 years, and has recently seen explosive growth in U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared devices,” says Kircher. “However, the industry still heavily relies on old testing methods for verification and quality control, which were designed for other means of manufacturing and not optimized for the AM process.”

The workshop will help attendees:

  • Learn about emerging test methods that could accelerate the use of AM for medical device production.
  • Collaborate with industry leaders to investigate, study and advance new technologies.
  • Aid in the prioritization of new work items for development by ASTM F42.07.03.
