New ASTM International Publication Dimension Stone Use in Building Construction

STP 1499, Dimension Stone Use in Building Construction, is now available from ASTM International.  STP 1499 contains twelve peer-reviewed papers that demonstrate the continuing advancement in the understanding of dimension stone used in building construction.  Topics included cover:

Strength Testing—addresses testing to determine strength characteristics of dimension stone cladding panels.

Design—covers a wide range of topics, including the advantages and disadvantages of three common dimension stone paving installation techniques and the relationships between stone material strength, anchorage strength, and induced stress states for four common dimension stone cladding anchorage configurations.

Evaluation and Investigation—provides observations regarding investigations into the causes of dimension stone cladding deterioration and failure.

Durability—discusses the complex issue of dimension stone durability using three different approaches:  a large-scale European research project to investigate the causes of marble and limestone cladding panel bowing; development of  preconstruction testing parameters to assess bowing potential; and assessment of  proposed remedial efforts to reduce or inhibit ongoing bowing.

Kurt R. Hoigard, Raths, Raths & Johnson Inc., and Michael J. Scheffler, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates Inc., served as the editors for this volume.

Copies of STP 1499, Dimension Stone Use in Building Construction (154 pages, soft cover, 6” x 9”; ISBN:  978-0-8031-4492-7; stock # STP1499) are available for $55  from ASTM Customer Service (phone: 610/832-9585; fax: 610/832-9555; https://www.astm.org/contact/) or online at www.astm.org.
