ASTM International Honors Khalid Alshibli with C.A. Hogentogler Award

ASTM International’s soil and rock committee (D18) has awarded its C.A. Hogentogler Award to Khalid Alshibli, professor in the department of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Tennessee.

The award is given in honor of the committee's first chair and in recognition of a paper of outstanding merit on soils for engineering purposes presented before ASTM.

Alshibli’s career concentration is geotechnical engineering. He received his bachelor of science and master of science in civil engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology, and his Ph.D. in the field from the University of Colorado (Boulder). Much of his recent work has been in academia at the Univeristy of Tennessee, as well as other institutions like King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Louisiana State University, and more.

Alshibli has earned numerous other accolades, such as the 2021 Outstanding Educator Award (ASCE-Knoxville Branch), and is among the world’s top 2% cited scientists for 2023, according to Harvard University Scientist Rankings.
