ASTM International Awards Grants to University Students for 2023 Standards Projects

ASTM International announced five $500 grants for university students to help with senior or graduate design projects that contain an ASTM International standards component. 

“These grants allow ASTM International to support students who are directly engaging with our standards in real-world scenarios as they work on capstone projects,” said Travis Murdock, academic outreach coordinator. “The goals of these innovative projects, from accessibility-focused technology to helmet safety, support what we strive to do every day, help the world work better.”

The following students have won 2023 project grants:

  • Andre van Grieken and Steven Bernal-Diaz (F23), Florida State University, for Development and Validation of an Induced Hypothermia Thermoregulation Model for Assessing Patient Warming Device
  • Calli Sipin, Tobias van Schaik, Ashka Patel & Julia Kautz (F04), Northeastern University, for An Implantable Osseointegrative Pylon for Transradial Amputation
  • Erica Roche (D19, D20), University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, for Seasonality of Water Quality Parameters of Natural Seawater Water Collected for Biodegradation Testing
  • Jeremy Mayzak, Ben Stuhr, James Williams, Shawn King, Simon Mastroserio, & Aaron Hibbert (F38), Rochester Institute of Technology, for RIT Space Exploration Mars Drone Project
  • Wentao Chen, Mengjie (Kaylee) Xie, & Aashay Shah (F38), University of California Irvine, for Drone Remote ID for Anti-collision

Students interested in applying for 2024 grants should submit an abstract, including: 

  • Summary of the project goal,
  • List of ASTM International standards that are being considered to achieve that goal,
  • Declaring of intent to submit an application paper for publication by ASTM International on completion of project, and
  • Statement of endorsement by a faculty member.
