National Standards Body of Nicaragua References ASTM International Petroleum Standards

Nicaragua’s Dirección de Tecnología Normalización y Metrología (DTNM) has detailed its use of ASTM International standards over the past year in a recent annual report.   DTNM and ASTM International signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in 2005.

The Dirección de Tecnología Normalización y Metrología has been the national standards body of Nicaragua since 1998.  DTNM has adapted, adopted or referenced more than 200 ASTM International standards since the MOU was signed in 2005.  This year, DTNM consulted more than 35 ASTM International standards for the preparation of Nicaragua national standards and used an additional 14 ASTM standards as reference documents. The majority of ASTM standards covered petroleum and are under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D02 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants.

Initiated in 2001, ASTM International's MOU program promotes communication between ASTM International and national standards bodies worldwide, fostering awareness of the standardization systems of all parties involved. The purpose of the program is to increase greater worldwide participation in the ASTM standards development process and facilitate the development of national standards that will aid health, safety, and environmental and economic conditions. More information on the MOU program can be found on the ASTM International Web site (www.astm.org/GLOBAL).
