Michael McGaw, Ph.D., president of McGaw Technology in Lakewood, Ohio, has received an ASTM International Award of Merit and the accompanying title of fellow, the highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.

McGaw resides in Lakewood, Ohio.

McGaw was honored "for exceptional and sustained technical and leadership contributions within ASTM International Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture, particularly those addressing the development of standard test methods for the fatigue properties of engineering materials undergoing thermomechanical deformation."

An ASTM International member since 1989, McGaw chairs Task Group E08.05.07 on Thermomechanical Fatigue and serves as vice chair of Subcommittee E08.05 on Cyclic Deformation and Fatigue Crack Formation. He has made significant contributions to E08 in its efforts to develop tests for structural materials subjected to fatigue and its work advancing the application of fatigue and fracture mechanics to enhance the safety and reliability of components and structures undergoing thermomechanical deformation. In addition, he has organized symposia that address the important applications area of thermomechanical fatigue behavior and has published or presented research in various ASTM forums.

In his career, McGaw has concentrated on solid mechanics, materials fatigue and fracture, high temperature material behavior and automation applications. Before forming his own firm, McGaw had been a senior materials research engineer at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

McGaw earned his B.S. in theoretical and applied mechanics from Michigan State University, and an M.S. in aerospace engineering and Ph.D. in aerospace and mechanical engineering from Case Western Reserve University.
