Laurie E. Locascio, Ph.D. of NIST’s Material Measurement Laboratory Joins ASTM International Board of Directors

Laurie E. Locascio, Ph.D., is currently the Acting Associate Director for Laboratory Programs (ADLP) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors. Locascio is based in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

NIST is a federal agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce. Locascio has served as Director of the Material Measurement Laboratory at NIST since 2012, and prior to that, as division chief of the NIST Biochemical Science Division. Her technical expertise lies in bioengineering and her research portfolio includes the development and applications of microfluidic systems for biomedical research.

Locascio holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from James Madison University, a master’s in bioengineering from the University of Utah, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. She is the author of more than 100 scientific papers and holds 11 patents.

Outside ASTM International, Locascio is a Fellow of the American Chemical Society and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.
