Klas M. Boivie of SINTEF Manufacturing Joins ASTM International Board of Directors

Klas M. Boivie, Ph.D., senior research scientist at the Department for Production Technology of SINTEF Manufacturing in Trondheim, Norway, will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors. 

SINTEF is Norway’s leading research organization, and one of the largest independent research organizations in Europe, offering contract research and development for the private and public sectors in a multitude of fields. Boivie has been with SINTEF since 2008, and throughout his career, he has been conducting research in different aspects of additive manufacturing technology, including process development, practical applications, and integration of additive manufacturing processes in the industrial production system. 

Boivie has written or co-authored numerous technical papers, serves as reviewer for international research journals, and speaks on topics related to his field. 

An ASTM International member since 2009, Boivie is a member of the committee on additive manufacturing technologies (F42), where he serves as the chairman of the terminology subcommittee and a member at large of the executive subcommittee. Boivie is also involved with additive manufacturing committees of the Swedish Standards Institute, the European Committee for Standardization, and the International Organization for Standardization. 

Boivie holds a master’s degree in metallurgy and materials science and a doctorate in additive manufacturing technology, both from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. He also completed postdoctoral studies in additive manufacturing technologies at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
