Kevin K. McGhee Honored with Top Annual Award from Key ASTM International Committee

ASTM International presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Kevin K. McGhee, associate director of research at Virginia Transportation Research Council, for his contributions to the vehicle-pavement systems committee (E17). 

The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. 

McGhee was honored for his dedicated career-long service to the committee as leader and mentor, with particular contribution to the expanded understanding and use of continuous friction measurement on airfield and highway surfaces.

An ASTM International member since 1997, McGhee has previously been recognized with the committee’s Tilton E. Shelburne Memorial Award (2015) and H.W. Kummer Lecture Award (2018). He is also a member of the road and paving materials committee (D04).

McGhee has served in his current position since 2017, having previously held a position at Dewberry Engineering before joining Virginia Transportation Research Council in 1992. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Virginia.

In addition to ASTM International, McGhee is a member of the Transportation Research Board.
