Kenneth O. Henderson Named Chair of ASTM Petroleum Products Committee

Kenneth O. Henderson, vice president of technology for the Cannon Instrument Co. in State College, Pa., has become chair of ASTM Committee D02 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants. Committee D02 includes 1500 industry professionals and experts who are responsible for almost 600 standards published in five volumes of the Annual Book of ASTM Standards. Henderson has previously served as vice chairman and as secretary of the committee.

Henderson lives in Port Matilda, Pa.

An ASTM International member since 1983, Henderson is also a member of ASTM Committees D01 Paint and Related Coatings, Materials, and Applications and E20 on Temperature Measurement. Outside ASTM International, Henderson is a member of the Institute of Food Technologists, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Society of Plastics Engineers, and the Society of Rheology. He is also a former member of the ASTM Committee on Standards and a former chair of the St. Louis Section of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers.

In his work at Cannon Instrument Company, Henderson has been involved in developing tests to measuring fluid performance, with recent efforts focused on broadening the application of current rheological tests to other types of lubricants. Much of Henderson's professional career has been dedicated to the physical properties of lubricants at low temperatures and their behavior in engines.

Before assuming his current position, Henderson managed engine qualification programs for Castrol North America Automotive. He previously had been rheology group leader at Ethyl Petroleum Additives and a research assistant at the Washington University Medical School. Henderson holds a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Missouri - St. Louis.
