John R. Sieber, Ph.D., Awarded B. F. Scribner Award

ASTM International Committee E01 on Analytical Chemistry for Metals, Ores and Related Materials presented the B. F. Scribner Award to John R. Sieber, Ph.D. a research chemist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Md. Committee E01 recognized Dr. Sieber for his efforts supporting E01 subcommittees in a number of areas, including more accurate and precise standard test methods and guides through his statistical expertise, improved communications between NIST and ASTM, and expert knowledge of the X-ray fluorescence spectrometry and associated emission spectrometry fields.

An ASTM International member since 2000, Dr. Sieber works in Committee E01 and in Committee F40 on Declarable Substances in Materials. He also is currently working with Subcommittee D20.70, Analytical Methods for Plastic, on a study of elemental analysis methods. Outside ASTM International, Sieber is a member of the American Chemical Society and the International X-Ray Analysis Society.

At NIST, Dr. Sieber focuses on analytical chemistry and specializes in X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. He develops certified reference materials and test methods. John earned his B.Sc. in chemistry from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, Pa., and his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from the University of Maryland, College Park, Md.
