John Malmgreen is Elected Chairman of ASTM International Committee on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys

ASTM International Committee B02 on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys has named John Malmgreen, vice president of manufacturing and quality at Eastern Alloys Inc. in Maybrook, N.Y., as its new chairman.  The committee consists of approximately 210 members responsible for more than 200 standards that play a role in all aspects important to the metals industry including compositions, properties, dimensions, classification, nomenclature, analysis and quality assurance.

Malmgreen, who resides in Wurtsboro, N.Y., joined ASTM International in 1992.  He is active in many B02 subcommittees, and serves as chairman of B02.91 on Terminology and B02.95.01 on U.S. TAG to ISO TC18 on Zinc and Zinc Alloys.  He is also a member of Committees A05 on Metallic-Coated Iron and Steel Products; E01 on Analytical Chemistry for Metals, Ores and Related Materials; and F40 on Declarable Substances in Materials.

A graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, N.J., where he received a master's degree in chemistry, Malmgreen joined the staff at Eastern Alloys Inc. in 1978 as a chemist.  He was promoted to plant manager in 1988 and assumed his current role in 1993.  The focus of Malmgreen's work is the technical and practical aspects of manufacturing, including quality control, assurance and production methods. 

In addition to ASTM International, Malmgreen is a member of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy and the Council of Industry for the Lower Hudson Valley.  He holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Hunter College in New York.
