Experimental Aircraft Associations Earl A. Lawrence Elected an ASTM International Director

Earl A. Lawrence, vice president of Industry and Regulatory Affairs for the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in Oshkosh, Wis., has been elected to the ASTM International Board of Directors for 2005 to 2007.

EAA is an international association that supports recreational aviation with information resources, programs and activities for its 170,000 members.

Lawrence, who has held his current post since 2000, manages two EAA offices and is responsible for reviewing and analyzing government policy on the federal, state, and local levels that affect recreational aviation. He also advocates for private individuals who build and fly aircraft for recreation. An EAA staff member since 1994, Lawrence joined the organization as a government relations specialist.

Lawrences earlier career focused on aircraft and spacecraft maintenance and construction. He had worked for Rockwell Rocketdyne division in Canoga Park, Calif., first as a rocket engine mechanic and then as a manufacturing engineer, gaining experience in engineering, administration, production, quality assurance, and management.

Chairman of the recently organized ASTM International Committee F37 on Light Sport Aircraft and a key contributor to its organization and productivity, Lawrence has been an ASTM International member since 1995. He is the recipient of the 2003 Robert J. Painter Award from the Standards Engineering Society and ASTM International.

In addition to his work on F37, Lawrence is a member of ASTM Committees D02 on Petroleum Products and Lubricants, F36 on Technology and Underground Utilities, F38 on Unmanned Air Vehicle Systems, and F39 on Normal and Utility Category Airplane Electrical Wiring Systems.

Lawrence is also a sanitary district commissioner for a small utility district that provides sewer and water services to more than 7,000 residents in his local community near Oshkosh. A member of the American Society of Association Executives, the Coordinating Research Council, and the Society of Automotive Engineers, Lawrence is a graduate of Northrup University in Los Angeles, Calif.
