European Union Selects ASTM International’s Anthony R. Quinn as a Delegate to Visitor’s Program

The Delegation of the European Union to the United States has selected Anthony R. Quinn, director of public policy and international trade at ASTM International, as a delegate in the 2011 European Union Visitor’s Program (EUVP).

Jointly sponsored and administered by the European Parliament and the European Commission, the EUVP consists of meetings with EU officials at EU institutions in Brussels, Strasbourg and Luxembourg in order to gain first-hand appreciation of goals, policies and peoples, and to increase mutual understanding between professionals from non-European Union counties and their EU counterparts.

Quinn is one of only 20 representatives from the United States to be chosen as a delegate. EUVP’s highly competitive selection process is open to young, promising leaders from countries outside the EU. In his role as a delegate, Quinn will focus on EU policies related to alternative energy, health, nanotechnology and emerging sectors.

“ASTM International is proud and honored to see Anthony selected for the European Union Visitor’s Program,” says James A. Thomas, president, ASTM International.  “Developing a deeper understanding of the EU and building new relationships enhances his knowledge and contributes to the continued success of our organization.”

Quinn has more than a decade of experience in policy and trade matters. In his role at ASTM International, he works to raise awareness with policymakers, the business community and the general public regarding the importance of international standards for trade and the need to ensure that standards policies and regulations promote competitiveness and innovation.

Established in 1974 by the European Parliament and the European Commission, the EUVP is currently governed by a Steering Committee under the joint chairmanship of Mr. Stavros Lambrinidis, vice president of the European Parliament, and Lady Catherine Ashton, high representative/vice president of the European Commission.

ASTM International is a global leader in the development and delivery of consensus standards with individual members from more than 135 WTO member countries, including the 27 member nations of the European Union. ASTM standards are used in research and development, product testing and quality systems. They are often a critical component of the information infrastructure that guides design, manufacturing and trade in the global economy.
