Dr. Noral D. Stewart, Stewart Acoustical Consultants, Wins ASTM International Committee E33 Wallace Waterfall Award

Dr. Noral D. Stewart, president of and principal consultant for Stewart Acoustical Consultants in Raleigh, N.C., has been honored with the 2005 Wallace Waterfall Award by ASTM International Committee E33 on Environmental Acoustics. The committee recognized Stewart "for his distinguished contributions to the development, preparation and acceptance of standards in acoustics."

Stewart lives in Raleigh, N.C.

Vice chair of Committee E33, a group of about 140 professionals responsible for 50 acoustics standards, Stewart is also chair of Subcommittee E33.91 on Long-Term Planning and a member several of other E33 standards writing groups. He joined ASTM International in 1985.

Stewart is a consultant in acoustics and noise control, including architectural acoustics, building systems noise, environmental and community noise evaluation and control, and noise control in workplaces. Before starting his own firm, Stewart gained extensive industry experience with Western Electric Co. and N.C. State University.

Outside ASTM International, Stewart is a member of the Acoustical Society of America, ASME International, the Institute of Noise Control Engineering, the National Council of Acoustical Consultants, and the Transportation Research Board/Aircraft Noise Subcommittee.

A graduate of North Carolina State University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Stewart also earned his master's and doctorate degrees in mechanical engineering/acoustics from the same institution.
