Dennis G. Piper, vice president of research & development and corporate affairs for Full90 Sports in San Diego, Calif., has been honored with a 2007 ASTM International Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow. The award is the highest society honor for individual contributions to standards activities. Committee F08 on Sports Equipment and Facilities cited Piper for his leadership and his technical contributions to the group.

Piper lives in San Diego, Calif.

An ASTM international member since 1991, Piper works on many of F08's subcommittees and currently serves as a director of the F08 administrative division. A major contributor to several headgear standards, Piper recently completed six years as F08 membership secretary. He is also a member of F15 on Consumer Products, and outside of ASTM, a co-founder and past president of the Protective Headgear Manufacturers' Association.

In his position at Full90 Sports, Piper focuses on the design and development of protective headgear for sports and recreational activities. Before assuming his current role in 2002, Piper held positions with Troxel Cycling and Fitness and IRT Corp., both in San Diego.

Piper graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va., with a B.S. in physics, and he earned his M.S. in physics from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich.
