ASTM International Honors Rune Dyvik with Outstanding Achievement Award

ASTM International’s soil and rock committee (D18) has presented its A. Ivan Johnson Outstanding Achievement Award to Rune Dyvik, consultant for the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI).

The award was presented to Dyvik in recognition of outstanding and significant contributions to the soil and rock committee. Highlights of his work at ASTM include service as chair of subcommittees on strength and compressibility (D18.05) and identification and classification (D18.07) of soils, contributions to standards on bender element testing and shear testing, and much more.

An ASTM International member since 2012, Dyvik has been previously honored by the committee with two Richard S. Ladd Awards (2016, 2020).

Dyvik’s career focus is geotechnical engineering, laboratory and model testing, and research and development. He most recently served as technical lead and expert adviser for NGI from 2006 to 2024, at which time he retired and became a consultant for the institute.

Dyvik earned all his degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), the last being his Ph.D. in civil engineering (1981).
