Ted A. Steinberg, Ph.D., professor in the school of engineering systems at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane (Australia) has received the 2016 Charles B. Dudley Medal Award from ASTM International, one of the world’s leading standards organizations.

Steinberg was honored for his contributions as editor and co-editor of, and contributor to, several volumes of the series, Flammability and Sensitivity of Materials in Oxygen-Enriched Atmospheres. According to his peers, the work forms a cornerstone of past and current work of the globally-recognized ASTM International committee on compatibility and sensitivity of materials in oxygen enriched atmospheres (G04).

An ASTM International member since 1994, Steinberg volunteers in G04 and several of its subcommittees. He has served chairman of the subcommittee on research (G04.92). ASTM honored him in 2011 as the Professor of the Year for his work in developing students’ understanding of standards.

Steinberg has also received:
•    two NASA certificates of recognition for developing pioneering microgravity combustion tests of metals and developing a model for metals combustion in oxygen,
•    teaching awards from several universities, and
•    Lockheed Corporation’s Robert E. Gross Award for the engineer/scientist of the year.

Steinberg has been a member of the science and engineering faculty at Queensland University of Technology since 2005. He previously was a lecturer and senior lecturer in the department of mechanical engineering at the University of Queensland from 1993 to 2005. Prior to that, he was an adjunct professor at New Mexico State University and the University of Colorado at Boulder. His professional experience also includes work at Sandia National Labs and Lockheed Corp., and as a senior engineering specialist for the NASA White Sands Test Facility.
